Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your fees?

    Strathearn Psychology’s fees are consistent with the recommended fee schedule of the Psychologist Association of Alberta. Generally, we charge $220 per session for individual sessions which are 50 minutes long (with 10 minutes left for note taking)

  • Do you direct bill?

    Strathearn Psychology does not directly bill. Payment is made through a credit card charge on the day of your session. A detailed receipt will be emailed to you following payment. You may use this receipt as you see fit to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

  • Is there free parking?

    YES! There is lots of free parking in front of Strathearn Psychology.

  • How long are your sessions?

    Individual sessions are 50 minutes long with 10 minutes left for note-taking.

    Couples and Family sessions are often scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for more time when more people are present in session.

    EMDR treatment sessions are scheduled for 2 hours.

  • What should I expect in my first session?

    You will be greeted in the waiting room and brought to a private office with a comfy couch and chair. We know therapy is not always comfortable, but we hope our furniture is!

    Your first session will begin with a review of the informed consent documentation. You will also be invited to share what brought you to Strathearn Psychology.

    Don’t feel you need to come prepared with what to discuss; we can help you with that!

    Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured methodology to facilitate healing from emotionally distressing, painful, overwhelming memories, and somatic responses.

  • What is the Gottman Method Couples Therapy?

    The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that thoroughly assesses the couple's relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.

    Couples who enter into Gottman Method Couples Therapy begin with an assessment process that then informs the therapeutic framework and intervention.

    Interventions are designed to help couples strengthen their relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creating shared meaning.
